for with OP’s and the festival remaining
in the season.
There has been much quality on show
notably the recent win over a strong
MCC side however we must obtain
a greater hunger for the significant
contribution that goes onto win games
whether with the bat or ball.
2nd XI
Sadly, the season has been truncated
by a number of cancellations from
opposition schools, halving our number
of fixtures from 10 to 5. Therefore, it has
been difficult to achieve any momentum
and so inconsistency has been the most
consistent feature.
Two
winnable
games

Huddersfield and Bradford went

therein from Rob Boddy (33) and Henry

Yes we can, the boys have finished
the season in “royal form” beating the

trophy with three strong victories, the
sweetest being dismantling Hymers on
their own ground. Batting award: Rory Stephenson

Winning the toss the boys bowled
Hymers out for 79, they then dispatched
though our poor luck was continuing
against Hymers, where our fielding
performance was not at the level of a
2nd XI. However, a spirited batting
performance was master minded once
again by Rob Boddy (66 off 60 balls),
and taken over the line by some lusty
hitting from Charlie Laverack and the
only win of the season was achieved.
A lot of time then elapsed until and
between the final fixtures against
Ashville, where we almost pulled off an
unlikely victory thanks to some stonking
batting from Oli Mann (43), and St

Saturday match, with a heavily depleted
side, we bowled and fielded brilliantly
to dismiss the opposition for 121 and
then batted out our time comfortably,
for a draw. On the following Tuesday,
in the county 20/20 cup, we completely
dominated, batting first and scoring 138
for 5, then restricting them to a meagre
105 for 9.
Highlights of the season included the
early victory over a good Bradford side,
two comfortable wins against Hymers,
an easy win against Ashville and the
heavy scoring in our innings of a rain-
ruined match against Leeds. However,
probably the best team performances
were in the two fixtures against a St.
Peter’s side who had not lost a school Individually, the best batsman has been
Tom Kirby, who scored three 50s but
many other players have contributed
with the bat, especially Ed Hasdell
and Oliver Kettle, who both scored
their maiden 50s for the school. Harry

we subsided by 9 wickets. A word of
mention must go to our outstanding
captain, Dan Isenstein, whose rallying
of the troops, dogged batting, and
excellent skills behind the stumps were
a key feature of the season.
A great effort.

The best bowler was Henry Kay, who
was ably supported by Tom Kirby, Ed
Hasdell, Josh Matthews, Ben Maycock
and Noah Parkinson, whilst George
Brignall-McDougall and Noah Callau
both took 3 wickets for 13 runs in the
Saturday fixture against St Peter’s.
The real champagne moment though,
occurred when Noah Callau won a
“bowl off” against Richmond, at the
conclusion of a rain affected 20/20
match that we had dominated, by hitting
the stumps twice in three attempts.
