SPORT// HOCKEY GIRLS’ HOCKEY 2nd XI P10 / W7 / D0 / L3 A season of two halves. The 2nd XI hit the ground running when we started back in September; accumulating 5 wins out of 5 and a score tally of 18 goals for and 2 against - and ALL before the end of September. The results for the rest of the season were rather mixed but nevertheless some excellent hockey played. Victories included matches against Barnard Castle, Hymers, Yarm and Hull Collegiate. Below are some comments from the 2017 2nd XI team captain, Ellie Harrison: ‘The girls showed excellent commitment, with Grace Atkinson being awarded a distinction for her ‘commitment to the team’ in her last season at Pocklington School. There has been a clear improvement in play for a lot of the former U15A team, and some amazing play from newcomers Grace Beckett and Lily Walster. Lily was awarded a distinction for ‘commitment and outstanding play’, which I can only imagine was a hard choice for Miss to make with many of our girls playing brilliantly. In true Pocklington spirit, the girls 60 THE POCKLINGTONIAN It will be sad to see some of our players go, but I am sure that next season will be just as good. Well done girls.’ In addition I would like to mention Ellie, who as captain worked tirelessly to organise the team and keep things running smoothly. For her efforts she was awarded 2nd XI hockey colours. Congratulations, Ellie. Ellie Harrison and AGC played with determination and epitomised grit against some very skilled opposition. Pocklington started with two very pleasing results, beating Newcastle High 4-0 and Durham High 1-0. St Peter’s stepped up as the third opposition of the day and with the Pocklington girls matching the St Peter’s side in skill, fitness and determination, the game could have gone either way; Taggy Medforth’s superb goal was matched by another two goals from St Peter’s and the game sadly ended with a 2-1 defeat. GSAL were the fourth and final opposition of the day. With
