INTO THE QUARTER FINAL THURSDAY 25 JAN 2018 RUGBY U15 NATIONAL CUP REVIEW NORTHERN FINAL TUESDAY 5 DEC 2017 Pocklington School U15 Rugby team have reached the final stages of the National Schools Competition (formally the NatWest) North Group as one of the final 16 teams in the Schools Cup Vase Competition. Mr Wareham, teacher in charge of Rugby at Pocklington School said: “The team have really played very well, with over ten different try scorers so far and everyone playing and making a significant contribution to each game. This shows the depth of the squad and the high skill level they all possess.” Pocklington School’s Head of Athletic Coaching and Development and U15 rugby Head Coach, Jonathon Wheeler added: “Momentum is a key word this season. This athletic, pace-laden group have gone on a great run recently whilst maintaining a commitment to progressive rugby.” Pocklington School U15 rugby team have reached the quarter-final of the National Schools Cup Vase Competition, after winning the Northern Group B Final against Worksop College, 36-19. The quarter-final will be played at Pocklington School against opponents QEGS Penrith on Thursday 1 February 2018. Pocklington are hoping to take advantage of playing on home turf after much of the tournament so far, has been played at away fixtures. Mr Wareham, teacher in charge of rugby at Pocklington School said: ‘The boys have done exceedingly well to get this far and it will be great for the team to play their quarter-final match with the support of their home crowd.’ Mr Byas, Director of Sport at Pocklington School said: ‘Last year’s Schools Cup experience, when the U15 team reached the Schools Cup Bowl Final, has been a great inspiration to many of the students coming through the School. This year’s current achievement is testament to that and also to the hard work the players and the staff have put in, to reach the last eight teams in a national competition. THE POCKLINGTONIAN 57
