PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENTS Izzy Brosenitz Pocklington School Fourth Year student, Izzy Brosenitz, has been selected for the Under 15 Leeds Rhinos Netball Academy and the North Yorkshire County Satellite Academy. This is a fantastic achievement and a great opportunity for Izzy. Izzy has enjoyed playing netball since she was 10 years old, when she joined Kingston Netball Club. Playing for a club requires huge commitment and dedication. She trained three times a week and played in matches and tournaments, including regional competitions, on top of her school commitments. However, for Izzy the hard work has paid off, as access to performance coaches, Club support and competing in competitions at EIS Sheffield, which boasts specialist netball facilities, have all contributed to Izzy’s sporting development and subsequent academy selection. The Leeds Rhinos Netball Academy trial was conducted in one intensive day. With only 25 places available, the pressure was certainly on for Izzy. The trial involved six hours of skills training and six consecutive matches, playing various positions to assess fitness levels and technical ability. Izzy said: “It was an interesting experience, which I will never forget. There were some very experienced netballers so the competition was hard. I’m looking forward to being trained by Anna Carter, the Leeds Rhinos’ coach.” Izzy’s father said: “We were so proud to hear that Izzy had been successful in gaining a place in the U15 Academy, competing against the best of the best at Leeds Rhinos Netball.” Mr Brosenitz added: “The strength and conditioning training Izzy undertakes at Pocklington School has made a huge difference to her fitness levels, so credit to the School for providing this facility.” As training at the Leeds Rhinos Academy commences for the new season, the opportunities open to Izzy are vast. She will have access to a team of highly experienced professionals such as strength and conditioning coaches, nutritionists and psychologists. She will have exposure to England Netball at Headingley Carnegie Stadium, who share the Leeds Rhinos Netball Academy programme and future vision. Izzy will also have opportunity to train 24 THE POCKLINGTONIAN “It was an interesting experience, which I will never forget. There were some very experienced netballers so the competition was hard. Mrs Walker, Senior Netball Coach at Pocklington School said: “It was clear to see Izzy’s netball ability when she joined the School. She was invited to train with the senior team when she was in Third Year and now she is a Fourth Year, she will be training with seniors and playing in their fixtures. This is not something that is a regular occurrence for a Fourth Year and we are very proud of her.” Mr Byas, Director of Sport at Pocklington School said: We are absolutely delighted for Izzy. Her dedication and commitment have been rewarded with this selection and it is a testament to her and the support she has received and will continue to receive, from all the Netball coaches, staff and the Strength and Conditioning Department, headed by Mr Wheeler at Pocklington School. We all wish her well on this journey.”
