SCHOOL NEWS// CHARITY C H A R IT Y COMMITTEE 2017-2018 TOTAL RAISED £7,1 6 5 The Charity Committee began their fund-raising in November 2017 when we encouraged the lower school pupils to take part in the Samaritans Christmas present appeal, along with Secret Santa and a Festive jumper day! This year we asked each house to nominate a charity that they would support throughout the year. Hutton House had our national charity - The Stroke Association, Wilberforce House our international charity with Water Aid, Gruggen House had our environmental/animal charity - Andrew’s Hedgehog Hospital and finally Dolman House had our local charity - St Leonards Hospice, York. We have ended the year on a high with our sponsored bi-annual school walk around the Yorkshire Wolds, organised by Mr Adam Hall and supported by the charity team. Our current fund raising total stands at £7,165 Well done to all the 6th form Team, led superbly and energetically by Charlotte Austin, Grace McNamara and Lauren Robinson who have been exceptional in their organisation and dedication! Helen Alexander I/C Charities Our main fund-raising Charity Week was a huge success at the end of March 2018. Gunging, Disney Hero’s day, Giant Musical Chairs and the popular 5-aside against the staff teams, all proved to be great hits as well as the popular Lower and Middle School Fairs. A special mention to Wilberforce House who have gone above and beyond with their fund-raising appeals, with a staff car wash, open gardens and plant sales. THE POCKLINGTONIAN 23
