GASTRONOMIC USE
AND OTHER USES
The tree is renowned for its vegetative
regeneration and its rapid growth, which makes
it a suitable crop for bioenergy and for pulp and
paper production.
Owing to its environmental plasticity, it is used
for soil protection and afforestation in polluted
industrial zones.
Black poplar wood is fine textured, soft and
almost white incolour.
It resistant to shock, and traditional uses
therefore included carts, floorboards and clogs.
It was also used to make matches. Today,
black poplar timber is used to
makeartificial limbs, wine cases, pallets,
shelving and toys.
Edible parts of Black Poplar:
Inner bark - dried, ground then added to flour
and used for making bread etc. A famine food,
used when all else fails.
MEDICINAL USE
The black poplar has got different medicinal
uses:
It helps us eliminate liquids, to purify the
body, eliminating toxins from the body and
the liver, to reduce uric acid levels. It calms
the pain, muscular, joint pains. It reduces
inflammation. It helps to heal superficial
wounds, to expectorate in catarrhal
processes and to improve the digestive
processes. It also helps to lower the fever
and to combat fungi on the feet.
