Pinus halepensis
Pinus halepensis is a tree. The height of
English: Aleppo pine
the tree is 15-25 metres. The colour of
the bark is brown.
Spanish: pino carrasco
Estonian: aleppo mänd (süüria
mänd)
Leaves
They are perennial and
needle-shaped, and measure
6-12 cm long and 0.7-1 mm
wide. They are arranged
two by two on short stems
of limited growth, their
apex does not puncture
much and they are light
green, thin and flexible.
Flowers
Inflorescence: there are a
unisexual flowers, in the
same tree there are male
and female flowers.
The flowers open between
March and May.
Fruit
It produces separate male and
female cones on the same
plant. The elongated male
cones are relatively small,
yellowish or brown in colour,
short-lived, and borne in dense
clusters. The easily
recognisable female cones are
large and either cone-shaped
(i.e. conical) or oval (i.e.
elliptic). These female cones
(6-14 cm long) are often
paired, or occasionally
arranged in small clusters, and
are borne on thick curved
stalks 1-3 cm long.
