& with What are some of the best aspects of being a professional gymnast/athlete? How do you overcome mental blocks/fears in the gym? “I love being a professional gymnast because I finally get to show off who I truly am. I love traditional competitive gymnastics, but the Pro Gym Challenge has given me the opportunity to show off my crazy side and let loose of every aspect of who I am.” “I overcome fears by taking a step back. Sometimes I get scared and worked up over a new skill or a routine, so I just have to breathe and take a step back by working on basic skills, talking to my coach and reminding myself to have faith in what got me to this level. “ Why do you feel the Pro Gymnastics Challenge is a great event? “The Pro Gym Challenge is great because it has combined the hardest sport in the world, with the entertainment it needs to give gymnastics a WOW factor. The PGC will leave people excited about gymnastics, help them understand cool skills, and also leave them feeling satisfied with a super competitive event.” What are some of the differences between traditional gymnastics and the Pro Gymnastics Challenge? “Traditional gymnastics has been around for hundreds of years and is very set in its ways with 10 skill routines and judges who come up with the scores. The PGC throws all of that out of the door introducing a skill-for-skill battle with judges who determine simply who did the skill higher, faster, better with more style. The PGC is exciting with fun music, entertaining athletes and a twist on just about every aspect of the traditional sport.” What kind of training advice would you give a young gymnast? “My advice to young athletes is simple. We all fall short of reaching our goals and dreams sometimes, but any dream is worth fighting for. Fight util you accomplish your goals and have a blast even when the times get tough.” Why did you choose to stick with gymnastics? “I choose to stick with gymnastics because I have an enormous passion for it. In my opinion, gymnastics is by far the hardest sport in the world. I love the challenge of always trying to be better. Itʼs a sport that can't be beat, and nearly impossible to be perfect in. I love doing everything I can to get better each and every day.” What are some of the most important aspects to concentrate on as an athlete? “In general, I think all athletes really need to focus on the mental side of their sport. By the time any athlete reaches the elite level, most of them have an expert understanding of their skills and the mental side can be the make or break. Nerves can be the deciding factor at a competition for me and I have to really visualize and keep myself calm during the most intense moments. The mental game of sport is more powerful than most people realize!”
