The Pen Project Volume 1 Issue 2 - Page 25

a close call by Jose Rios It all started on a regular day after a girl came over to my house. I had just been introduced to her. So my way to be in those types of situations was to be as cool as I could be. A little later, she asked if there was any way we could get her a little heroin. So I knew a neighbor of mine that could help. He then took me somewhere to get what we needed. I had heard about China White in the past, but it was not something I had ever seen before or consumed in my life. I was told by my neighbor that it was white heroin. Although I had no clue of what I was getting myself into, it felt good getting back to the house with that. When the girl saw it, she told me she had never tried that kind before. She seemed a little concerned. So I, the cool guy told her not to worry, and that I would try it first. My friends did not want to do the drugs, so the two of us did it. When she saw that I was ready to go, she told me not to do it. I told her not to worry. As it was going into my body something told me to do it all and look cool, like it was no big deal. But on the other hand something told me to stop. The amount seemed to be small, something like fifteen drops of water, and I only did half of that amount. No big deal, so I thought. I instantly felt a very warm rush flow through my body from head to toe. I then felt like I was floating as I took each step. I told the girl that I felt real good. She did what was left over and told me it was some good stuff. I felt so relaxed that I just wanted to go lay on my bed. I then remember being like six feet from my room and just looking at my bed…. This is when I experienced something in my life like never before. I don't recall taking the next step towards my room. Everything turned pitch black. I then started hearing a creepy sound. I later found out that sound was coming out of my own mouth. I then thought something was going on and it was not normal. Then I heard one of them say, “Let’s take him to the bathroom, turn on the cold water.” That’s when I felt like I was pulled out of that white place that I was in. I then remember my vision focusing into color and a live scene. It was me, myself, and I. With two of my friends over the top of me, slapping me and shaking me. I also remember seeing a friend by the door holding a cell phone as if he was recording the situation. I could see all of this happening from the corner of the ceiling down, as if I was watching it from a camera. I remember seeing myself shut down and seeing my face kind of purple. I felt a little scared, because I knew that was me. Then I heard one of them say, “He’s not going to make it, let’s take him to the hospital.” I felt like I had to get back in me and wake up. It all turned black again, and I felt like I was picked up and carried away in a tombstone, as they were taking each step. Before I knew it, I was able to see the beautiful blue skies and the light of day. I felt really good and special, like I was given a very special gift on a birthday. One of my friends was then in front of my face asking me if I was okay. I answered him, “Are you okay?” He then said, “We just saved your life.” I responded, “You didn't save nothing.” He said, “What do you mean, do you wanna see the video?” That was when it all replayed in my mind. They had it all on the cell phone, just as I remembered in my mind. Even that creepy sound I heard, I was on a sofa sitting down with my head to my shoulders facing down making it. Still today, I don't know what those words or sounds meant. All of that had happened and was on video. I guess God was not ready for me, and that it was not my time to go. From one second to the next my darkness turned into a bright white place. It was like an all white room except there were no floor, walls, or ceiling. I remember just holding my hands together, looking around and just feeling like a little kid. But yet I was somewhat confused. Seconds later, I started to hear some voices from far getting close and louder by the second. Now this I could understand, because they were speaking my language. The voices were my friends telling me to come back and not to leave them. 25
