The Passed Note Issue 2 October 2016 | Page 8

We at The Passed Note delight in the writings of women. In the face of such an adverse world, I believe it is important to curate diverse voices and honor women of all backgrounds. The walls of children’s literature history are covered with women, and I’m honored our second issue reflects this tradition. Perhaps some of the pieces within Issue Two will awaken a desire to tell powerful stories in the next generation of writers.

In this issue, we are honored to host a craft essay and excerpt from the wonderful New York Times bestselling author Carrie Ryan. Her new book, Daugh-ter of Deep Silence with Dutton Books, features the tale of a young woman seeking revenge; the novel shows that girls are nothing if not survivors. I couldn’t think of a more unwavering voice to begin our second issue.
