UP Diliman itself with disaster risk management, occupational safety, and the greening of the UP Diliman campus. There are SOS grants that follow the OVCRD’s regular cycle o project proposal submission and review, and there are SOS grants awarded in response to emergency situations confronting the country. For instance, after the 2013 magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Bohol, a special SOS Call for Creative Work and Research Proposals was circulated addressing the Bohol earthquake and its significance to other areas in the Philippines. Titled Lindol sa Bohol, Babala sa Metro Manila, the OVCRD-sponsored banner program invited UP Diliman constituents to submit short and immediate researches or creative works that will be helpful to Bohol in terms of recovery and rehabilitation, as well as useful reference for Metro Manila in case of a similar-magnitude earthquake by the West Valley Fault, in terms of mitigation, adaptation, preparedness, and/or response. In the aftermath of the super typhoon Yolanda, another OVCRD-sponsored banner program, named DRRuM UP! DRReaM UP!, solicited proposals for short and immediate researches or creative works that will be helpful to the Visayas in terms of recovery and rehabilitation, as well as useful reference and lesson for many regions of the Philippines including the communities hosting the various campuses of UP, in terms of mitigation, adaptation, preparedness, and/or response when threatened by typhoons. This program’s premise is that the University community in unity can help drum up concerted efforts leading to improvements in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM). Further, the Philippine society, situated as it is in one of the world’s most hazardous geographic and geologic locations, rather than yield to pessimism, can choose to dream up proactive strategies for the future. The grant is open to regular faculty members and REPS in active service in UP Diliman. Temporary faculty members, except lecturers, professors emeriti and faculty on sabbatical leave, may also apply. Those interested in the grant can submit an electronic copy of their full application using OVCRD’s new system for online submission of project proposals, found at http://projects.ovcrd.upd.edu.ph/ovcrd/.
