The OVCRD Report and medium enterprises (SMEs), since it eliminates outsourcing the coating process, thereby leading to more efficient use of the SMEs’ capital. With assistance from PCIEERD and OVCRD, Dr. Ramos was able to collaborate with the Asian Semiconductor Electronics Technologies (ASET) Corporation for the market validation and prototyping of CoaTiN® in preparation for its commercial release. While inventions like CoaTiN® take years to be ready for commercialization, other technologies require rapid deployment. This is the case with ready-to-eat (RTE) cooked rice and noodles developed by Dr. Maria Patricia V. Azanza of the College of Home Economics (CHE). RTE cooked rice and noodles do not require further cooking, reheating or water hydration; moreover, they are retrogradation-resistant and shelf-stable for one month. These properties make the RTE rice and noodles ideal for situations where cooking is not an option, such as in evacuation centers of calamity-stricken areas and during military field operations. When typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) hit the country, Dr. Azanza saw the opportunity to help out, and immediately planned the production of 5,000 units of 150-gram packs of RTE rice and 10,000 units of 150-gram packs of RTE noodles. This large-scale deployment effort was achieved with the support of students, staff, and faculty from CHE who volunteered for the 12-day production of the RTE rice and noodles, and funding support from the OVCRD’s Source of Solutions Grants program. ON THE UP DILIMAN PUBLICATIONS The OVCRD Journals: Branding, Accreditation, and Internationalization As a research university, UP Diliman has always endeavored to have a strong scholarly publication program. The OVCRD, through its Research Dissemination and Utilization Office (RDUO), has been undertaking several initiatives to support and enhance the University’s scholarly publication thrusts. One of the most important initiatives concerns the OVCRD’s three peer-reviewed journals themselves: Humanities Diliman (HD), Science Diliman (SD), and Social Science Diliman (SSD). In 2012, the RDUO began work on
