the Committee has uploaded the Biosafety
Registration Form, Biosafety Annual Report
Form, and Biosafety Incident Report Form on
the OVCRD website. The Committee is also in
the final stages of preparation of the Biosafety
Manual.
The UP Diliman Institutional Animal Care and
Use Committee (UPD-IACUC) was originally
the College of Science Animal Care and Use
Committee (CSACUC), which was established
in compliance with the Department of
Agriculture’s Administrative Order No. 40
(Series of 1999). The key tasks of the CSACUC,
which are the same tasks of the UPD-IACUC
but with a broader area of coverage (i.e. UP
Diliman instead of College of Science only), are
to evaluate and approve the Animal Care and
Use Program (ACUP) and protocols of scientific
procedures at UP Diliman, monitor and review
the implementation of the ACUP and scientific
procedures, and provide necessary technical
recommendations and guidelines regarding
animal care and use for laboratory tests.
The current Chair (until 31 May 2014) of the
Committee is Dr. Cynthia P. Saloma, former
president of the Philippine Society of
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, current
president of The Philippine Society of Cell
Biology, and director of the NIMBB.
Like the UPD-IACUC, the UP Diliman
Institutional Ethics Review Committee
(UPD-IERC) started out as a college-level
initiative, in the College of Social Sciences and
Philosophy (CSSP), subsequently elevated to
a Diliman-level committee. The establishment
of the UPD-IERC is in response to the 2011
National Ethical Guidelines for Health Research
of the Philippine National Health Research
System
