The OVCRD Report Towards a More Inclusive Research Dissemination Grant Framework The Research Dissemination Grant, or RDG, was created to enable UP faculty and researchers to present their research papers in international conferences. The RDG is seen as a way of helping faculty and researchers expand their networks and a means for enhancing the University’s visibility in the international academic community. In a move that reflects OVCRD’s inclusive thrust, guidelines in the allocation of the 2013 RDG budget were modified to make it possible for first, creative work performances and exhibitions, and second, locally-organized research and creative work dissemination events, to be covered by the grant. The modification of the guidelines was the outcome of the increase in the 2013 RDG budget. An additional PHP4.5M was earmarked for the RDG, and one-third of this total amount (P P1.5M, labeled as Part 3 RDG) was allocated three ways: • To support faculty members’ participation in an international special/ seasonal conference, creative work exhibition or public performance held abroad, wherein such participation is crucial especially in terms of enhancing the University’s international networking and reputation; • To support faculty members’ participation in national conferences, creative work exhibitions or public performances held in the Philippines, wherein such participation is crucial in terms of enhancing the University’s status as the country’s national university; and • To support faculty members of Units that are (co)organizing or joining an international conference, creative work exhibition or public performance held in the Philippines. The 2013 Part 3 RDG was awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to faculty members participating as paper presenter or featured artist in a research/creative work dissemination event that is aligned with the research/creative work agenda of the applicant’s Unit. Application procedures were the same as those followed for standard RDG applications. For events held abroad, the grant amounts followed those that have been already set. For events held locally, a schedule of grant amounts was worked out, based on the location of the event (in or outside Metro Manila). The 2013 Part 3 RDG would hopefully pave the way for a more comprehensive review of the RDG guidelines, so that the convergence of science and art also finds its way in this very important support program for UP Diliman faculty members. (Note: Management of the RDG program is one of the new functions of the OVCRD .)
