A Convergence of Great Minds:
Four Maps, One Landscape
The title of Professor Emeritus is conferred
upon retired faculty members in recognition of
their exceptional achievements and exemplary
service to the University. Professors emeriti
remain in the faculty roster of the University,
thus giving current students and junior faculty
members and researchers the chance to benefit
from the mentoring that their seniors, in the
past, also received from these esteemed
teachers and scholars. Like full-time faculty
members, professors emeriti continue to be
active in research or creative work pursuits,
further contributing to the growth of the
disciplines where they have distinguished
themselves, and to enhancing UP’s position as
the country’s premier institution of higher
learning, cutting-edge research, and
progressive creative works.
With their exemplary achievements as
mentors, researchers and creative workers, UP
Diliman’s professors emeriti have a lot to share
with the other constituents of the University.
The OVCRD, therefore, conceptualized
a symposium series that will give UP students,
faculty members and alumni opportunity to,
in UP President Alfredo E. Pascual’s words,
“acquaint themselves with the recent research
projects and creative work of our intellectual
giants, and to learn from their experiences.”
Titled Four Maps, One Landscape, the
symposium series was launched last 15 January
2014 at the Bulwagan ng Dangal. The title of
the symposium by itself highlights the
convergence or the joining together of
distinguished minds from different disciplines.
