The OVCRD Report Science-in-the Park, an outdoor activity area in The Mind Museum, Taguig Another example is the research project undertaken to support the mariculture program in Bolinao, Pangasinan. In this research, UP Diliman, through the MSI, partnered with two foreign universities—the University of Miami in Florida, USA and the University of Hokkaido in Japan—and a local university, the Cagayan State University in Aparri, Cagayan. Completing the Project Team are representatives from the local government unit of Bolinao and the NGO Conservation International Philippines. The aim of the research is to highlight the continuous multifaceted process for a successful mariculture endeavor. The study uses remote sensing tools to show the on-the-ground response of the stakeholders to various local legislation, mariculture-induced disasters, and scientific recommendations. Using hydrodynamic models, the efficacy of the responses is then assessed and the necessary adjustments are pinpointed to alleviate challenges and maintain the productivity of the coastal waters. Paliwanagan has become, according to Chancellor Caesar A. Saloma, “a major event that gathers together the different constituents and members of the University in the spirit of genuine collegiality, collaboration, and community,” and is thus not only a venue for sharing research and creative work outputs and exchange of ideas but also an affirmation of UP Diliman’s vision of serving the nation.
