The OVCRD Report and the local lantern industry. Convergence of disciplines also featured in a number of newlyawarded project grants. One such project is Diliman as Model for Philippine Urban Planning, the first phase of which tackled the housing situation in UP Diliman, with a view towards providing viable alternative housing options applicable not only to the campus but also to urban areas in the country in general. This research program is headed by Dr. Laura T. David of the Marine Science Institute (MSI); collaborating institutions include the Institute of Civil Engineering (ICE), College of Architecture (CA), and the NGO TAO-Pilipinas. Another collaborative project involves the School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) and the College of Music (CM ), for the preservation and restoration of Philippine art music manuscripts dated 1920s and 1930s that are archived at the CM library. While the 2012 colloquia were more focused on convergence among individual researchers and creative workers, the 2013 and 2014 colloquia emphasized convergence of units and institutions. Paliwanagan in these years introduced academic units, institutes, and centers to each other’s institutional research and creative work undertakings. More importantly, the paper presentations enlightened UP Diliman constituents and partners about advances in cross-disciplinary collaborations in the campus. Some of these collaborations involve several UP Diliman academic units. An example is the project Preliminary Survey of the Philippine Creative and Cultural Industries: An Intercollege Research Agenda for the Establishment of the Proposed UP Sentro para sa mga Industriyang Likha at Kultura (UP SILK) and the National Paliwanagan sa UP Diliman’s goals are captured in its logo. The simple and abstract nautilus shell design symbolizes vitality guided by the golden ratio or phi constant—the ideals of what are dynamic, organic, and harmonious. The nautilus shell represents a growth that incorporates the past within the present, each former spiral serving as a basis for the formation of future spirals, a reminder that future development and expansion is driven by a coherent and central vision. The circular endpoints of some light rays correspond to already-realized R&D, while those rays without definite endpoints imply a promise of continuous support from the OVCRD.
