Spring 2016
Join the JCL!
Latin is very much a living language, as seen in the
events that the OJCL and your Latin Club offers throughout
the school year. Service, social, and academic events are
held throughout the year, and it is always a great idea to
attend. With the school year almost coming to a close, I
strongly recommend that you attend next year’s events.
Why? I'll tell you why.
3. It’s true – you can meet new friends.
You may be surprised, but it is very well possible to make
friends outside of your school through Latin because of the
Junior Classical League. JCL people are some of the nicest
people you will ever meet. Yes, I have a photo to prove it.
1. You need service hours.
Does your school have a service hour requirement? Does a
program require you to have them? Fear not: the JCL is a
service organization. Regional MADD events are the
biggest OJCL service events, and there are always large
turnouts to them. You get to meet with friends, have a good
time, and serve the community. What could be better?

4. Your friends from school go to them.
Yes, your friends go to the JCL events in your area. It’s the
cool thing to do. You may be asking yourself: “Do they?”
The only way you’ll find out is if you attend.
5. The Ohio Junior Classical League State Convention in
Columbus.

2. Your Latin teacher goes to them.
And he/she is actually really cool when he/she isn’t grading
that Latin quiz you had the other day (Shoutout to Mr.
Dean).
The Latin Convention is the pinnacle of everything Latin.
Your JCL friends will be there, your friends from school will
be there, and everything you love about Latin will be there.
6. The National Junior Classical League Convention at
Indiana University.
It’s just one state over. And it’s a week long. And it’s really,
really fun. And it has really good food. So if you like fun or if
you like food (or if you’re an adventure-seeking maniac and
like both), I wholeheartedly recommend that you attend.
You'd be surprised how amazing one week can be.
