The NJSACOP Foundation for Senior Executive Leadership Program (FEL) is designed as a developmental program for superior officers seeking to prepare for senior police leadership, as well as those already in the most senior positions looking to enhance their skills. The program will help provide the knowledge and understanding required of leaders operating at this level. The following is the selection criteria for attendance at the FEL:   Ideally, attendees should have at least three months experience operating as a Lieutenant (or equivalent) or above, and must have the endorsement of their Chief of Police or Chief Agency Executive. Attendees must have completed other supervision or leadership courses, as the program is designed on the assumed knowledge provided by such programs. The underlying purpose of the course is to help attendees to lead in a complex policing environment where decision- making, leadership, partnership, and self-awareness are needed to successfully operate. The course is also designed to help police executives not just deal with today’s ever-changing environment, but to also manage necessary change. The 5-day classroom based content of this program will be delivered at a fast pace, using tutor facilitated discussions, self-diagnostic and group exercises, and respected guests speakers from policing and academia. The course affords participants the opportunity to reflect on their current actions and to learn new skills to effectively lead their teams in strategic, operational, and tactical arenas, as well as non-operational environments. The course is organized around five (5) critical core concepts:  LEADERSHIP AWARENESS [The Context of Leadership Learning / Leadership Styles / Leadership Levels]  SELF AWARENESS [Perception of Leadership / Self Understanding / Personality Type]  DECISION-MAKING [Decision Making: Rationale & Bias]  CONFLICT MANAGEMENT: [Leading Individuals & Teams Through Conflict / Leading Individuals & Teams Through Change / Models for Leading Through Change]  TEAM DYNAMICS [Team Development / Action Plans] The 2019 session agenda will include the “Breaking the Cycle of Mediocrity” presentation by Chief Tim Longo [Ret., Charlottesville PD]. 8
