The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine | March 2019 EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT MITCHELL C. SKLAR Committees—A Vital Component of a Vibrant Association We need your active involvement The committee structure has been an important building block to order and efficiency since the start of civilization. Without the proper delegation of urgent tasks nothing would get done. When running an Association, having committees cuts down on the time it takes to properly execute the tasks at hand. A non-profit association such as the NJSACOP does not operate to gain a profit of any kind, but rather to advance our mission and to support our members. Committees help spare us to husband valuable resources putting to use the talents, efforts, and yes, time, of our members. The Association just wouldn’t be what it is without active and effective committees. They deserve your sincerest thanks. However, to be successful, our Association needs to cultivate fresh ideas and encourage additional involvement in our committees. Also, if we’re being honest with ourselves, we need to acknowledge that our committees have not been as active and involved as they once were. With all that in mind, the NJSACOP is embarking on a drive to revitalize our committee structure and to seek the active involvement of our members in the revitalized committees. Why Should I get Involved? Now, more than ever, your profession is facing challenging times. Now is the time for law enforcement executives to unite and have a strong, unified voice through NJSACOP. To do this, we ask you for your support, time, knowledge and energy. What’s in it for You? As a member of our committees, you will play a major role in finding solutions to the many challenges facing you and your colleagues. We do this by strengthening and elevating our professional status, providing training and advocacy, providing up-to-date information to our members and working collaboratively with other stakeholders. What do we Ask of You? With a minimal amount of your time, you can make a difference. Leadership and direction come from the individuals who play an active role in the NJSACOP. Now more than ever, your Association needs your support— for the people and communities you serve, your agencies and personnel, your colleagues, and your profession. Positions include committee chairs and committee members, as well as external representative positions to a wide variety of boards, commissions, task forces and organizations. Won’t You Join us Today? With your help, we will remain a strong, pro-active association working for the law enforcement profession and the office of Chief of Police. Please take the time to look over the Committee application form and give serious thought to playing a key role with your Association. You might be surprised at the big return you’ll receive for just a small investment of your time and energy. Mitchell C. Sklar, Esq. Executive Director 4
