The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine | May 2018 From the NJSACOP Monthly Meeting Minutes 65 Years Ago – May 1953 The NJSACOP Monthly State Chiefs Meeting for May 1953 was held at Police Headquarters in Union, NJ. State PBA President Howard Devaney addressed the membership, speaking “at length upon the condition which we were faced today – the lack of proper young men to apply for positions as policemen, the resignation from Police Departments of good officers because of inadequate salary, and the unfavorable conditions under which we must work.” 40 Years Ago – May 1978 The NJSACOP Monthly State Chiefs Meeting for May 1978 was held at the Sulphur Springs Inn in Berkeley Heights, NJ. Membership chairman Chief Otto Flaig submitted the following applications for membership, which were approved by the membership: Chief James DiIuzzio (Closter); Chief Edward Giblin (Montclair); Chief James Gormley (Montville); Chief Edward Kredatus (Clifton); Chief Nicholas Grego (Stanhope); Chief Richard Gaunt (Bridgeton); and Chief Anthony Yacavelli (Bogota). Chief Nicholas Grego Stanhope PD 20 Years Ago – May 1998 The NJSACOP Monthly State Chiefs Meeting for May 1998 was held in Holmdel, NJ. Chief Dan Colucci, chairman of the NJSACOP Legislative Committee, reported that A119, the “Alternate Route” bill, now had an identical Senate companion bill, which he was assured by the chair of the Senate Law & Public Safety Committee, would be on the agenda for a Senate Committee hearing during the month. Chief Edward Giblin (Montclair PD) and Chief Edward Kredatus (Clifton PD) Chief James Hill, NJSACOP Treasurer, reported that the Association had a balance of $9,973.20 in the Association’s accounts. This month in NJSACOP history…..May 1941 At the May 1941 State Chiefs Meeting, a letter was read that had been received from the “Chamber of Commerce at New Brunswick from C. Suydam Cutting of New York regarding the sending of confiscated weapons to him to be sent to the British Government.” Following discussion, it was decided to notify the Chamber of Commerce “to have a bill passed which would enable Police to give these weapons to the British War Relief.” 1980 Chief Polhamus reported at the May monthly NJSACOP Meeting that the Statewide Police Emergency Network (SPEN) became a reality on April 30 th , and that implementation of base stations will be included. The Chief thanked all of the Chiefs and NJSP Superintendent Pagano for their efforts in promoting the SPEN program. Deputy Superintendent Brennan of the State Police addressed the membership and extended the State Police’s support to help make the new system a success. 5 Chief Fred Roff orristown PD
