The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine | April 2018 Continued from previous page nation’s top public safety organizations under the leadership of the IACP to provide tailored technical assistance and a field driven approach to local policing agencies through a $7 million award from the Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office). "Better training and the more sophisticated policing strategies were key reasons for 20 years of declining crime in America," Attorney General Sessions said. "I believe that continuing to advance our technical sophistication can help us reduce crime once again, and that's why we're investing in CRI-TAC. Improving access to training for our state and local law enforcement partners will mean better policing and a safer America." Since the December 2017 announcement of the CRI-TAC award, the IACP and its partners have started planning technical assistance delivery to support three law enforcement agencies around their unique challenges. Those agencies include the Cedar Rapids (IA) Police Department, the McNeese State University (LA) Police Department, and the Knoxville (TN) Police Department, which has asked for technical assistance around effective gun violence reduction and prevention initiatives. NJSACOP LEAP Improves Services through PowerDMS Harry J. Delgado, Ed.S. Accreditation Program Director As the NJSACOP LEAP program continued to grow we planned and prepared for a transition from a paper driven process to an e-driven process. The technology or platform that will help us advance this process is PowerDMS and Power Standards. With over four hundred (400) agencies already utilizing PowerDMS for training, distributing policies and procedures, and storing documents in general, it makes most sense to use Power Standards as the option to move our accreditation program to an electronic platform. The New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) will be able to provide our members in the Accreditation Program enhanced quality service, meeting their needs through simplifying their accreditation process while leveraging PowerDMS platforms. To that end we will architect our NJSACOP LEAP site and currently are fully engaged in the process of uploading the 2018 revised standards, application package, process manual, annual report, and other relevant documents. Through PowerDMS’ recommended best practices, NJSACOP LEAP will make the accreditation process even more user friendly for our membership by creating models to follow, manage off-site training and assessments, provide resources, workflow reports, standard changes. The delivery of services through PowerDMS and Power Standards will allow us to facilitate and expedite off site file review. The end result will be a more effective and efficient delivery of information and services, saving valuable time, as well as providing greater latitude scheduling final off site assessments. We are currently preparing for our next phase; syncing users to our new site. Once completed our members with their username and password will have access to NJSACOP LEAP resources on our PowerDMS site. If the Chief (CEO) and/or the accreditation manager (AM) of your agency may have changed recently, please make sure to reach out to me as soon as possible to update your contact information. We are looking forward to launching our PowerDMS site for all NJSACOP LEAP resources soon! For additional information I may be reached at [email protected]. 6
