These comments, as well as many more in a similar vein that we have
received following each of the special Senor Leaders Seminars that we
have conducted with our colleagues at the College of Policing,
are exceptionally meaningful and gratifying, and exemplify the underlying
purpose of conducting such special courses.
While this seminar stands on its own, it also fits into the overall NJSACOP
professional development portfolio. Participants receive units that can be
used towards qualification for the Accredited Chief/Command Executive
certification designation, a statewide, voluntary professional credentialing
program instituted and administered by the NJSACOP.
Additionally,
participants in the program are eligible for 3 credits toward a bachelor’s or
master’s degree at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Quite naturally, I am proud to say that the program was an unqualified success. However, anyone that knows
anything about our Association knows that we are not content to rest on our laurels. We are indeed already
planning for our next endeavor in conjunction with the College of Policing, with plans for the next Senior Leaders
Seminar at the College of Policing already underway. Although these plans are not yet finalized, we are working
on conducting the course in July 2018 at the Garda Síochána College, the education and training college of the
Garda Síochána, located at McCan Barracks, Templemore, County Tipperary in Ireland.
We are exceptionally fortunate to have developed a working partnership with the College of Policing, and grateful
for all that they have done to ensure that this program was an unforgettable experience. In particular, special
thanks are owed to DCI Dave Annets and Inspector Helen Smith and her colleagues at the GMP Training HUB /
Operational Learning & Workforce Development. Dave and Helen went above and beyond the call of duty in their
efforts on our behalf. Dave is a true professional - a skilled police educator, an experienced and accomplished
police officer, and a great person as well. We are truly indebted to him.
As future plans develop for other unique professional development opportunities we will keep you informed. As the
saying goes, “stay tuned.”
