Introduced in the 1920s, the Spotted Dove is still spreading slowly through the North Island. They were introduced into Auckland, but now can be found right through Tauranga and Hamilton.

They are known to eat seeds, herbs and possibly insects in New Zealand. In their native range, in South-East Asia, they often feed on termites.

These birds have a fantastically beautiful call, which is a soft "Coo-oo-ooo", not as loud and boisterous as the more common Rock Dove.
