The Broad-Billed Sandpiper is a small (17 cm) sandpiper with a distictive 'double eyebrow' - the two white stripes above the eye technically known as a supercillium. They have long, drooping bills and black stripe through the rump.

They have shown up multiple times in New Zealand, especially during the 1970's. Popular spots include Miranda (five records) and the Manakau Harbour (six records). One juvenile bird was present for the 2015-16 summmer in the Manakau.
