Join Museum Registrar Laura Garrity- Arquitt to explore different variations of the Christian cross , their histories , uses and meanings . and economic recession ? Prof . Nina Tumarkin , Director of Russian Studies at Wellesley College , will shed light on this enigmatic ruler , with a focus on his symbolic politics and ideology . She will also comment on Russian-U . S . relations in a time fraught with tension and uncertainty .
The relationship between Church and State in Russia has always been a complex one . James T . Flynn , Professor Emeritus of History , College of the Holy Cross , and a long-time Museum docent , will trace that relationship from Prince Vladimir , who brought Christianity to Russia in 988 , through Imperial Russia , the Soviet and post-Soviet eras , up to the present under Putin .

Plan Your Trip to Oberammergau , Germany

Make your plans now for the travel event of the decade : The 2020 Oberammergau Passion Play . The Museum has partnered with Collette to secure tickets to the world-famous staging of the final days of Jesus ’ s life .
Since 1634 , the play has taken place every ten years in the tiny Bavarian hamlet of Oberammergau , Germany . The production includes more than 2,000 actors , musicians , and stage hands , all residents of the town .
The play will be part of Collette ’ s 10- day Imperial Cities tour , with stops also including Budapest , Vienna , and Prague , in May , 2020 . Prices and specific dates will be released in the fall of 2017 , and registration will be open for only 90 days . In May 2018 , travel to Israel with Museum CEO and Curator Kent Russell .
