Happy autumn!
It was good to see so many of you at our summer event
(apricots, not burgers, this year) and to reminisce about the
Valley of Heart’s Delight. Speaking of apricots, by now you
have probably heard the sad news that C.J. Olson Cherries has
closed their Sunnyvale fruit stand as of the end of September.
“Fruit stand” is an understatement for this treasure trove
stocked with fresh fruit, dried fruit, nuts, chocolates, pies, and
more. They were my go-to for large quantities of stone fruit,
especially Blenheim apricots. The stand was lined wall-to-wall
with vintage cannery crates, which they sold off to nostalgic
customers in their final weeks. (I managed to score one for
myself.) They do plan to keep selling their products at their
airport stands and at local supermarkets; still, it feels like
the end of an era, and El Camino won’t be the same without
Olson’s.

sure to visit our Dia de los Muertos altar in the History Center
while you’re here.
