T
he Alliance Française was
created in Paris on 21 July
1883 by a group of eminent men,
including the scientist Louis Pasteur, the diplomat Ferdinand de
Lesseps, the writers Jules Verne
and Ernest Renan, and the publisher Armand Colin.
I
t is a non-stock, non-profit organization
committed to promoting the French
language and culture. Its main goals
include teaching French as a second
language, organizing cultural events,
developing intercultural dialogue and
promoting
cultural
goods,
such
as
books, movies and exhibition.
T
he institute’s network has expanded over the years, with hundreds of
centers all over the world. In the Philippines, the Alliance Française de Manille
in Makati City and the Alliance Française
de Cebu in Cebu City serve as prominent foreign cultural institutions.
T
he Alliance Française de Cebu is
located in the French Consular lot,
fondly described as “Little France” or
“Petite France.” Two established French
restaurants, the La Maison Rose – The
Pinkhouse Restaurant and the La Vie Parisienne, are within the institute’s vicinity. Mark has completed multiple projects for these three companies.
