TEE TIME WITH TONY

THE 2 ND LITTLE THING

Last month we decided to take the initiative to SMILE AND WAVE . When in Conyers , no matter how silly you might seem or how unreceptive someone might be , we decided to show them our smiling faces ! Now it ’ s time to unveil the second of the 3 Little Things . Drive 5-10 mph slower when you are around town !

Now , this doesn ’ t mean you have to drive at a turtle ’ s pace everywhere you go . However , if you just start reminding yourself to slow down , no matter what road or what the speed limit is , you might slow down enough to take in our beautiful surroundings . You might also enjoy your ride a bit more . It might help to temper the “ rat
race ” feeling that so many of us carry around day to day . Now I ’ m not a doctor , but slowing down my pace has helped me lower my heart rate and feel more relaxed . Give it an honest effort and see how you feel ! Be honest with yourself , and you may find that there are soulcalming benefits .
The main reason we all need to slow down a bit is to make Conyers the BEST town possible . Having considerate , relaxed drivers in this alldriving-all-the-time metro area will go a long way in making your community more enjoyable for ALL . Especially for the playing children , handicapped , and other non-drivers ! Just think of how stressful it is to deal with aggressive drivers . What in this beautiful little town of Conyers can be so important to stress yourself and others out just to save a couple of minutes , at most ?
So in review of the little things we can all do to make our town so much more enjoyable for all , we have :
1 .
Smile and Wave .
2 .
Drive 5-10 mph more
slowly !
Yay ! And next month we will unveil the last thing ! They are all easy , I promise !

There seems to be a lack of discussion or “ shop talk ” concerning USGA ’ s decision to change a few rules of the game . This is not something they take lightly . Conservative beliefs , combined with the concern of preserving golf traditions over many years , is the norm for this association to make any major changes . I give USGA credit . They took 3 years to plan this rule change using the last year for a trail run and listening to input from across the spectrum . This included all common sense and the ultimate complaint concerning “ slow play .”

• Dropping procedure . When taking a drop from a normal course condition or a penalty area you drop from the knee .
• Measuring in taking relief . The golfer ’ s relief area will be measured by the longest club in bag other than the putter . 20 ” to 80 “ standard measurement
• Removing the penalty for a double hit . The penalty stroke for accidentally striking the ball . Golfer will
simply count the one stroke they made to strike the ball .
• Balls lost or out of bounds . Alternative to the dreaded stroke and distance now in place . Permitting committees to allow golfers the option to drop the ball in the vicinity of where the ball is lost or out of bounds under a two stroke penalty .
• Elimination of ball moved penalties . There will be no more penalties for accidentally moving your ball on the green .
• Relaxed putting green rules . You are allowed to put the ball while the flag stick is in place without penalty .
• Relaxed bunker rule . You now are allowed to remove loose impediments in a bunker .
Speed of play is the number one complaint for most local weekend golfer ’ s alone with having a slow beverage cart . Whenever you combine common sense and increasing speed of play , it ’ s got my vote .
Till next tee time
