HOT OFF Hess Family Wine Estate invites you... INTO THE LION’S DEN F or nine generations The Lion has symbolized the Hess family’s approach to life and accomplishments, supporting the notion that one should “Live Each Day With The Heart And Courage of A Lion.” Well it was time to really unleash the lions with a trio of wines. The Lion Tamer, The Lion and The Lioness. The Lion Tamer is their predominantly Malbec wine with 15% Zinfandel, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petite Sirah, and 8% Merlot. Wondering about the name? Well, it turns out “Lion Tamer” has become a nickname for Malbec. Much like a Lion Tamer who uses a deft hand to soothe powerful, instinctive animals, Winemaker Dave Guffy uses Malbec to soothe and tame powerful tannins. 2 The Lion, is a wine only released in exceptional vintages. It’s predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with 8% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. The grapes for this very exclusive wine are sourced from the summit of Mount Veeder. This wine isn’t new, but it got a revival and revamping. The Lioness is an estate grown Chardonnay from Napa. The Lioness pays homage to the women of the Hess Family who now lead the pride. Hess Shirtail Ranches (On-Premise Exclusives) have extended their line-up of wines, and they all come with the Stelvin enclosure. Due to the success of the Shirtail Ranches Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, the portfolio now includes a Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc with a Pinot Noir coming this fall. THE MARK WINE NEWS
