Hayabusa 2 will be the second of its kind to land on an asteroid and collect samples. The first Hayabusa (also known as MUSES-C/Mu Space Engineering Spacecraft C) was launched on May 9, 2003, and rendezvoused with the asteroid Itokawa in mid-Sept. of 2005. It was the first ever spacecraft to return asteroidal material safely to Earth for analysis.
