Sharp had wanted to automate Zone Out as far as possible to understand the role of human creativity in making films. What did he learn? "So much," he says. "For one thing it's brought my attention to how human beings have been making machines to capture their creativity for centuries. In a sense a completed movie is a machine, a bit like a music box, because you can sit alone watching it unwind." Benjamin's next move is to "take on a challenging new genre". Can a Netflix Original series be far away?
