There was the teacher who loaded her whole little school on the wagon at Boomi… There were the kids and dogs came for breakfast every day at Talwood, and the police there who kindly allowed themselves to be distracted by the album of photographs of paintings from paying too much attention to our very bald tyres and impure brakes… and generously wrote out our essential permits for Queensland with their eyes shut.
