The mystery of the solar corona

The outermost layer of the solar atmosphere, the solar corona reaches temperatures of millions of degrees, hundreds of times higher than those of the same surface of the Sun. It is as if the air around a lighted bulb, were much warmer than the glass surface.

Scientists at Northumbria University in Newcastle analyzed data from an entire solar cycle, from 2015 to 2015, and have discovered the mechanism that is the basis of the heating of the solar corona. The phenomena that occur in the solar atmosphere are dominated from the mechanisms that involve the magnetic fields of the Sun and their dynamic evolution.
