Afterwards, the procession departed, passing behind San Pietro, arriving in the square in front of the Chiesa Madre di San Nicolò (today, Largo San Nicolò il Vecchio). Here the clergy and the parishioners of San Nicolò entered the temple, while the clergy and the parishioners of Santa Maria descended towards their church. Thus, both communities, each for their own affairs, celebrated Mass and the Passio.
Until a few years ago solemnities began on Holy Thursday (today on Wednesdays) in the Church of Santa Maria della Stella.
