Hoodies Up

Tiarah Jenkins

Don’t put on that hood, or your up to no good!

Little did Trayvon know, being black was like

being a soldier in Iraq.

Fighting for your life;

is it even worth fighting for?

If you already know you will end up on the floor

with your mom looking down,

eyes all red, seeing you dead.

All because of the store, candy, and a drink.

I got my hoodie up for you,

and so do many others, too.

It was one bullet that shot you.

One gun that stopped you.

One shot that killed you.

Hoodies up for you, Trayvon,

because killing you wasn’t enough.

It put your mom through hell.

They didn’t send Zimmerman to jail.

He put the gun up for sale.

Many say he should go to hell.

Racism killed you,

and for that you will be honored.

Hoodies up!
