Blindness is a Disease

Karen Arellano

Ignorance is bliss, at least that’s

what the ones who live in it

continue to persist.

But they are blinded, hidden in this

darkness far from the realization

that something else can be seen.

Blindness is the form that ignorance

takes upon us. Most receive it as

a daily allowance; an ounce a

day to keep the pain away.

The pain of not being able to

accept the truth, because ignorance

molded you from youth.

Blindness is that disease that

doesn't cease, not because it is impossible.

It's just unbearable to contemplate the fact

that you chose imitation over truth.

That is credible,

because who would put their hands

in flames that they haven’t ever

tamed? Frightened by the truth, you

still pick pain as the excuse for why

you’re still stuck in chains.

Ignorance is a disease that blinds you,

borne from within, just

like the darkness you deem to call light.

Your eyes are your cave,

keeping you forever a slave.
