The Looking Glass Volume 36 | Page 81

Deion Lappleton, Grade 9

Enlightened

Luis Rodriguez

Darkness filled with incompetence,

Like living within a barbed wire fence.

When will it end?

Why am I here?

I am filled with fear.

I can’t see behind me, only forward,

Where shadows pass by all day and night.

A way out,

Dash before the muzzle of their hounds,

Crawling towards the light in the sky—

So high in the sky.

Blindness;

Crying with freedom,

Driven back by filial bonds.

A desire to save them,

Sneak back and tell them of the light;

But they fight.

Their might is too much.

And they beat me back into the night.
