The Looking Glass Volume 36 | Page 41

Patricia Tonner, Grade 12

I felt strange.

Nobody knew who I was:

Students, teachers...everybody.

New for me, new to them.

The faces were different colors,

And no uniforms like in my country.

All jeans, t-shirts, sports clothes, and sneakers.

The language was very difficult.

All I could hear was, “ZZZZZZZ.”

Confusion.

I was lonely, but at the end of the week

I had new friends.

I knew where the classrooms were, and today

I can speak and write English.

Everything falls into place,

Like the pieces of a cube.
