Nessa

Jordana Weinstein

I had a crush on this girl for a while, but the situation was complicated. She was my best friend’s sister and my dad's best friend's daughter. Confusing, I know. If they found out that I liked her, they wouldn't have let me see her anymore. This girl, let's call her Nessa, thought I was being all lovey-dovey because I was her ‘best friend’. She didn’t really open up to people, but she did with me and that made me feel special. We got close, so close that we told each other everything. Well, at least I did.

She started doing really “coupley” things with me, which made me think that she felt the same way I did. I even talked to my sister about it. She said that the way she was treating me, was like how any other person should treat their significant other. She said she was playing with me and my feelings, but I didn’t care. Nessa used to leave me messages like, “I'll call you when I get home beautiful; I love you.” She knew things like that made me smile. We would spend endless nights on the phone just talking about the most random things, like what she did at work and what places we want to travel to together. Sometimes she would call me because she couldn't fall asleep without hearing my voice. She’d call me just because she missed me.

Whenever I would go to her house, she and my best friend would fight over who got to hug me first. Nessa and I got awkward around each other every time I went there because of the tension between us. It got a bit easier with time, but she made me so nervous.
