We ran into each other in the middle of the hallway

With tired eyes from sleepless nights,

Yet somehow

I smiled.

I saw your face,

And after all the trouble you had caused me,

I smiled.

And somehow,

So did you,

And we embraced each other

With an overwhelming sense of ache.

And all of the memories flooded back to us,

But somehow

We smiled,

And as we looked into each other’s eyes

Silent apologies were given,

And silent pardons returned.

And as we walked our separate ways

We looked back at each other,

As if we had forgotten about the sleepless nights

And the never ending tears.

We smiled,

And walked away.
