Why the LX5 is a dead cert
APECS was launched 26 years ago. Since then, the company has introduced
numerous innovative solutions to address one of the most important
concerns; the need to protect one’s home. Although the company’s operations
now span across several continents, it remains a family-run business and
values close-knit relations with partners and customers. The UK office was
established in 2011, since then the team works on delivering a comprehensive
range of door hardware to meet the highest industry standards.
» » RECENTLY, APECS LAUNCHED
the highly anticipated LX5
deadlock, with advanced springless
lever mechanism which is certified
to BS3621: 2007. In addition to
this, by having its own factory this
allows APECS to deliver the LX5 at a
competitive price, meaning the lock
is a cost-effective alternative to the
traditional 5 lever deadlocks.
The lock was developed in
collaboration in collaboration with
the leading UK lock experts. The
LX5 was first presented to the heads
of the MLA in 2016. After receiving
great recognition, it was decided to
progress with the project and make
sure all required procedures were
completed. So, ensuring that APECS
LX5 is British Standard certified
and is in line with the requirements
of insurance companies and the
police.
‘The LX5 is a perfect
solution for new
build houses’
A key feature of the LX5 is its
unparalleled springless lever
mechanism, which greatly
complicates the possibility of the
lock being broken by non-destructive
methods. Hence, ensuring the long-
lasting performance of the lock.
Being a lever lock, not a detainer
mechanism, APECS LX5 does not
have the springs attached to the
back of the lever. This significantly
reduces the wear and tear of the
mechanism because the lever
daily operation does not involve a
mechanical tension. Long-lasting
performance is also achieved, as
there is reduced overuse of the
keys.
SOME ADDITIONAL SECURITY
MEASURES, WHICH
GUARANTEE LOCK SAFETY:
• LX5 has 20mm bolt throw with
two hardened steel pins. The
bolt fits into the box staples in
the door frame when locked
and due to its 20mm projection,
enables better protection.
• In addition, hardened steel pins
add a simple, yet very effective
strength feature and provide
excellent protection against
sawing. In the past thieves or
locksmiths could simply wedge
open a gap in the door frame
and saw through the bolt with a
hacksaw.
• Moreover, its body is made
of steel and protected by the
hardened steel plates, which
creates an additional protection
from drilling.
• Another safety feature is a
‘metal curtain’. This curtain goes
around the keyhole and provides
protection from manipulation of
the levers by picking.
• Compared to the traditional
lever locks, APECS LX5 has 7
different steps of levers which
creates more than 10,000 differ
combinations.
• Another useful feature of LX5 is
its capability to fit a double pole
microswitch, which allows an
individual to secure the door
with the alarm.
‘I found
the
footprint
of the
lock
excellent,
so
changing
the locks
wasn’t a
huge job’
LOCKSMITHJOURNAL.CO.UK | SEP/OCT 2018
The lock backset size is 45mm
making it an ideal retrofit
upgrade for traditional 5 lever
deadlocks, as well as a great
choice for new entrance doors.
The LX5 is a perfect solution
for new build houses because
according to statistics, new build
home owners are more likely to
insure their property and most
home insurance companies
require at least one of the locks
on external doors to be BS EN
3621 certified.
It should also be mentioned
that the lock was developed to
have universal application, which
allows the lock to fit on right hand
or left-hand doors.
APECS LX5 offers a variety of
security features, which makes
it extremely difficult to break.
Making the LX5 lock an ideal first
choice for doors which require
a high degree of protection. Not
only is it great value for money,
but also helps homeowners to get
their home insurance premiums.
Shane from HalesLocks “I found
the footprint of the lock excellent,
so changing the lock wasn’t a
huge job. If a customer is looking
for a BS standard replacement
deadlock, this is a good option.
When installed and finished
the action was very smooth, the
customer was extremely happy
with the product when they tested
it. I will definitely keep some stock
including blank keys as an option
for my customers in the future.”
