New Building Regulations
now cover security - and that
is good news for locksmiths

This is the second of a series of articles
in The Locksmith informing locksmiths
and security professionals about the latest
developments within the industry.
For the first time ever in England, the
latest Building Regulations - which take
effect in just a few weeks time - will require
new homes to incorporate provisions to
resist unauthorised access. The Regulations
state that doors and windows must be both
robust and fitted with appropriate hardware.
This new emphasis on home security is
making householders more aware of the
need to ensure their homes are protected.
Does this offer the locksmith an opportunity
when called out to upgrade entrance door
at existing domestic premises? The Door
& Hardware Federation’s general manager

could be the case.
For the first time, security has been
incorporated into the Building Regulations.
The new Regulations, which cover buildings
in England
