HARDWARE&SECURITY SPONSORED BY KEYPRINT PICKERSGILL-KAYE’S PRODUCTS CHOSEN IN GARDA CELLS SAFETY DRIVE Pickersgill-Kaye Ltd is collaborating with an Irish engineering company in a project to help reduce the instances of self-harming in police cells in the Republic of Ireland. Pickersgill-Kaye’s custodial inspection hatch and ligature resistant external 8-lever Kaye Class 1 Custodial Cell Lock were selected by the project’s authorised installers, including Oliver Boland Engineering Ltd, which produced the new cell doors using Pickersgill-Kaye’s products at selected Garda Stations all across the Republic. The custodial lock, strike plate and hatch developed by the Leeds-based firm met the OPW and Garda Professional Standards Unit’s (PSU) strict criteria by addressing the architectural issues of the old style doors and mitigating potential ligature points. The Kaye Class 1 Ce ll Lock meets the requirements laid down in the SS317 standard: an international specification that accurately measures the lock’s resistance to wilful damage, physical security, ergonomics, cyclic testing and performance in a hostile environment. Tested to 300,000 handle operations and door slams and 100,000 key operations, the lock is also resistant to a 12-hour saw attack, as well as a side load on the deadbolt of 25kN and to an end load on the deadbolt of 25kN. As such Sterling is leading the way in developing padlocks that exploit the scope of aluminium to deliver secure performance at the right price. To maximise the opportunity for sales this provides, Sterling is extending its successful range of Aluminium padlocks to include a selection of increased sizes and introduce two new weatherproof padlocks. The new weatherproof padlocks offers a superior level of corrosion resistance perfect for exterior use. The inherent ‘Robust and provide good security performance’ strength of aluminium also means these locks are robust and provide good security performance. The padlock features a hardened steel shackle, a precision brass cylinder and protective key hole cover to reduce water ingress. The lock is fully enclosed with a colourful thermo-plastic jacket for added water-protection. The aluminium key-operated range is also being extended to include the new 50mm aluminium which is added to the 20mm, 30mm and 40mm options. This gives a greater level of choice to users. This range is made particularly attractive with the use of a colourful outer cover.
