fromtheeditor There’s no doubt about it, 2014 has been another eventful year across the globe and here we are looking at the prospects of 2015. So far as this industry is concerned, the prospects actually look very good, as an increasingly anxious and insecure world demands higher – and increasingly more sophisticated - levels of security at every level. There are few places in the world today that do not have increasing concerns about security. We have all learned to be very wary, whether flying across continents, shopping online or drawing cash at an ATM. I recently returned from travelling in South Africa, where security has for decades understandably been top of the agenda and where I have spent much time both pre and post-apartheid. Security issues are a way of life here, so one learns to take every possible care and precaution. Crime is undoubtedly a serious and often – literally – deadly - problem. But it is important for visitors and residents alike to try not to allow it to detract totally from the unique splendour of this amazing country, with its equally amazing people, most of whom manage to remain optimistic, positive and cheerful in the face of what would seem to many of us, insurmountable remaining problems.
