Little did we know there was an understanding – a futuristic vision – that eventually smart devices would input the data themselves and reveal previously unseen actions such as shopping habits, usage, productivity, cost savings and more, just by recognising patterns in the mass of data, says ROB MARTENS, former CIO, security industry veteran and Allegion’s futurist and director of connectivity platforms. I think the future is particularly bright for integrators, security consultants and software providers as they will largely determine the pace of Internet of Things (IoT) adoption in the market. But first things first. What exactly is IoT? IoT was an expression coined by British technology pioneer Kevin Ashton in 1999 to help define the space, but what does it mean? IoT is ^X
