It is now more than eight years since GU ceased manufacturing the Mk1/11 Europa lock As there are no original locks - or indeed original lock cases left, what is the solution? Yes, the market is indeed awash with “copy” or “replacement” lock cases - and GU is no exception. Of course, there are quite a few copies out there in 28mm and 35mm backsets and a split spindle version of the 35mm. ‘But after thorough testing of all the copies or replacements, we are only happy with the 35mm that we stock’ But here at Greenfox we have thoroughly tested all the copies or replacements - and as a result, we are only happy with the 35mm we stock. 50 This does raise the question: why marry a “copy” with a lock that is eight years old - or even up to 20 years old? The vast majority of the locks manufactured since, fit in EXACTLY the same position as the old. NO CUTTING OUT IS NEEDED So whether it is a basic roller lock or a hook lock, the old and new locking positions will marry up – and no cutting out is necessary. The only thing you would have to do is DROP THE LATCH AND DEADBOLT - KEEP APPROX 5/6mm to allow for the difference in latch positions between the old and the new.
