WHEN ‘SCI-FI’ BECOMES EVERY DAY

cards or forgotten Access codes is an
everyday issue. We now have access codes
for a dizzying number of items, including
computers, security systems, cash machines
and phones. The result, as we all know, is
number overload and the inconvenience
– not to mention embarrassment – of not
recalling the codes instantly. Biometric
readers used to be the province of science
fiction films, but is now widely accepted for
a host of applications.
Lancashire based access control designer
and manufacturer Progeny is way ahead
of the game for door entry systems,
building into its range the very best in
biometric technology for authentication,
identification, and verification. Biometric
authentication, is the ability for an electronic
system to grant or deny access by evaluating
a person’s unique physical characteristics,
in this case with a simple fingerprint reader.
When an authorised person presents their
fingerprint to the biometric reader, the
system will review the information template
The All-New
and if it corresponds, it will grant access and
allow the door to open. If the stored data
does not match, access is denied. Only a
template containing a number of key points
of the fingerprint are stored and not the
whole fingerprint.
Next generation Progeny systems
incorporate the new 4803 Biometric
fingerprint reader for improved levels
of security. When used in tandem with
our Doors Enterprise V8.0 software the
matte black
L9001BL
system offers embedded support for
biometrics in the form of our fingerprint
scanners. In operation, a server-based
system works with door controllers to
store and distribute biometric templates.
When a new employee is added, they can,
subject to access levels the administrator
determines, access any door using our new
Bio Readers.
The Progeny access control range has
been extremely successful in the past 30
years enticing industries such as education,
football stadium, and local authority’s and
government buildings. Simple to install,
simple to use, the units can be used as
stand-alone or networked into a Progeny’s
Doors Enterprise system. Once operational,
the equipment is very robust, requiring
only periodic maintenance.
