HINTS&TIPS • 77 PROUD SPONSORS OF THIS PAGE Step-by-step guide to key programming » » HICKLEYS, THE SPECIALISTS IN vehicle key programming, will be running a series of key programming step-by-step guides in each issue of the magazine during 2017. In this second issue, we are detailing the necessary steps required to complete the key and remote programming on an Audi A3 2003 – 2009 with 8P chassis. This vehicle uses an ID48 Audi canbus transponder with pre-coded data and requires a security pin code to access the programming section of the vehicles on board electronics. When this vehicle was launched, the extra protection of the security system pin code combined with the special pre- coded transponder made this vehicle one of the more difficult vehicles to program, however, today there are a variety of solutions that make key programming quick and easy to achieve. Until recently, it was not possible to clone this transponder. However with recent breakthroughs this is now possible using a variety of cloning machines and sniff systems. It is possible to program a genuine dealer Remote key ordered by VIN number, an aftermarket remote key, an emulator remote key (Keydiy) or just a bladed key. When using a dealer remote key, it will come pre-coded and it is not necessary to find the precoding information, on all other applications it will be necessary to write the precoding data to the new transponder bef ore programming. In this example, we will be using the Advanced Diagnostics MVPPRO with Smart Dongle and Smart Aerial. TIP: When precoding keep all working keys away from the vehicle. Always read the new transponder first as there are 4 different VAG canbus transponders. Audi A3 2006 (8P) Precoding an Audi can bus transponder with the Smart Dongle (ADC240) and Smart Aerial (ADC242). You don’t need a working key and you can pre-code an aftermarket remote or a non-remote key. TRANSPONDER TYPE ID48 AUDI CAN (TP25) 1 Connect the MVPPRo/AD100Pro to the vehicle and select the Beta software on the programmer. 2 Select Audi, by vehicle, other and select A3 3 On the vehicle selection screen select Smart Aerial, VAG pre-coding and enter the pre-code info. Select 8P chassis, read pin code and select the engine number. The programmer will display the security pin code and vehicle pre-code. Make a note of this and then switch programmer off. 4 Include the 00 for the 7th bit and select the tick. Continued on next page...
