A step-by-step guide
to installing the CE3F
» » THE FOLLOWING STEP-BY-
step guide focuses on the
regular mounting position.
Guides for the other
positions are available at
www.uniononline.co.uk/CE3F.
A video is also available for
the regular mounting position
outlined below.
1. Check the free operation
of the door (no closer) and
the leaf width.
2. Fit the template to the
door, marking the required
holes. Remove the
template.
3. Fit the body to the door
face using the screws
provided. Tip: use a spirit
level to get the body
parallel to the doorframe.
4. Take the arm assembly
and remove the screw.
Tip: Put this somewhere
safe, as you’ll need it
later.
5. Take the fixed arm and
fix it to the closer’s body
using the correct screw
provided and tighten. At
this stage, the fixed arm
will be at 90° to the door.
6. Fit the adjustable arm
to the frame using the
correct screws provided.
7. Move the fixed arm to
meet the adjustable arm,
changing the length of
the adjustable arm if
necessary. Now keep the
adjustable arm at a 90°
angle to the door and
frame.
8. Insert the screw saved
from step 3 into the arm’s
assembly and tighten.
9. Use a screwdriver to
adjust the speed and
latch valves on the side of
the body. Tip: We advise
5-secs closing speed from
90⁰ open down to 10⁰ to
15⁰ open, then using the
‘L’ valve slowing the leaf
down to ensure it still
latches, but closes gently
into the frame.
10. Finally, push the pinion
cap onto the pinion on the
underside of the body.
Non-compliance with fire
safety requirements can have
serious consequences.
With the CE3F, the only
door closer in its class that
is CE Marked in all three
positions and fire rated for
timber and metal fire doors,
being able to competently fit
such a reliable solution should
open up many opportunities
for locksmiths.
